-Welcome to Maafushi, A&A Travelling and to the Real Maldives. Maafushi is one of the biggest and most popular local islands in the Maldives. The island is located in the South Male Atoll just 27 km away from Male. 2700 people live on this paradise island, it`s amazing how so many people can live on such a small piece of land, but as on other islands, you won`t feel the place is overcrowded. THINGS TO DO IN MAAFUSHI -Spend a day at the Bikini Beach. Like all the other local islands, Maafushi has a couple of Bikini Beaches which are the only beaches where tourista are allowed to wear swimsuit, but you can always swim in the other public beaches as long as you wear shorts and a T-shirt. -Sand Bank Trip Take a trip to a stunning sand bank for a pinic lunch, take pictures in the middle of the ocean with clear blue waters. -Snorkeling Safaries All guesthouses and hotels in Maafushi offer trips to stunning reefs that are full of coral gardens and marine life. Some guesthouses organize full-day excursions and include snorkeling, sandbank visit, safari with Dolphins and lunch. Other guesthouses organize day trips to snorkel around a shipwreck, snorkel with Nurse Sharks, sandbank, dolphins and Fulidhoo island. -Scuba diving On Maafushi there are around 4 dive PADI certificated centers. Here, a normal dive costs around 40 USD. -Floating Bar Alcohol is prohibited on any local island. But in Maafushi, a safari boat is anchored close to the island with a bar where you can sit on the boat`s deck and enjoy a beer, glass of wine, cocktail, looking at the stars and dance if you feel like it. From Maafushi`s harbour there is a boat waiting to take you back and forth for free, any time you want it in the evening and night. -Luxury Resort day Visit There are many resorts near Maafushi that allow day visits for guests. The trips include transfer by boat, meals, drinks, entrance fee, and the resorts amenities. The price ranges normally from 80-100 USD. TRANSFER TO MAAFUSHI Scheduled speedboat to Male and airport Daily Male-Maafushi: 9:15, 13:30, 19:00, 22:00 and it costs 25 USD Maafushi-Male: 8:00, 12:00, 13:30, 17:00, 21:00 The public ferry goes once a day and the trip takes 1h30m and it costs 2 USD. Tourism to local islands is very new in the Maldives, having opened up islands like Maafushi and Fulidhoo to tourists only within the last decade. Since then, development and infrastructure has taken a noticeable hold in the otherwise very local islands. We visited the Maldives as a spontaneous stopover on our world tour and decided to see what the difference would be with budget travel and luxury travel in the Maldives. We stayed on Maafushi island for one week during the rainy season and experienced all we could with less than ideal weather, but still had a great experience snorkelling with nurse sharks, feeding sting rays, touring the islands and sunbathing on the bikini beaches. I arrived in the Maldives 3 weeks ago and started my journey on the main island of Male and Hulumale. Then took a boat to Guraidhoo, and Thoddoo. The best and nicest budget hotel in Maldives! I was in Hulumale but on the way out to another island in the Maldives called Guraidhoo. At first I wanted to go to Mafushi but couldn't find the boat so I ended up going to Guraidhoo. It was a bit confusing to find the ferry terminal and a boat out to the island but I found it eventually. Maafushi is one of the inhabited islands of Kaafu Atoll and the proposed capital for the Medhu Uthuru Province of the Maldives. It is noted for the Maafushi Prison. In accordance with the recently passed Decentralization Act of Maldives, Maafushi is governed by an elected Island Council composed of five Councillors. The Council is headed by the President of the Council. The Island Council reports to the Local Government Authority (LGA). As democracy and decentralization is at the infant stage in Maldives, the councillors, and the government find it difficult to deal with important issues like land, and resource utilization. There are still many legal issues that need to be settled, before the island council can confidently perform its duties independently. There is also the issue of lack of know-how among the councillors. Most councillors are without basic education, and find it difficult to manage the day-to-day affairs of the island. Ecco, noi di Coste del Sud ci siamo stati alle Maldive, soggiornando presso il Maayafushi Resort e ancora portiamo addosso la bellezza, il silenzio e la quiete di un posto che lascia senza fiato, per questo abbiamo pensato di condividere con voi il montaggio delle varie clip che abbiamo girato durante la vacanza. L’arrivo in un posto è sempre sorpresa e meraviglia, a qualsiasi età, ed è forse la parte del viaggio che preferiamo, ancora più bella ed entusiasmante dei preparativi e della scelta dell’itinerario, visto che ancora non hai una oggettiva percezione di quello che sarà il posto. Il Maayafushi Resort ha il pregio di avere ogni tipo di comfort e di godere di una posizione speciale, diritta sul mare delle Maldive. Dalla camera al bar per la colazione si cammina immergendo i piedi nella sabbia soffice e bianchissima, il buffet è un tripudio di colori e di frutta esotica, carnosa e saporitissima, per non parlare di quello a pranzo e cena, con carpacci di pescato fresco tagliati al momento. La vera scoperta, però, sta nella semplicità di un arenile sconfinato, quello che hai sognato durante il viaggio, quello di cui ti sei innamorato studiando la meta, ma che dal vivo lascia ancora più a bocca aperta. L’acqua innanzitutto, mille sfumature di turchese, una palette di colori che si mescolano creando declinazioni infinite di blu, che a contrasto col bianco deciso del bagnasciuga diviene già un quadro non replicabile. E credeteci, la difficoltà dello spiegare a parole tutta questa meraviglia è tanta, ma abbiamo voluto provarci, per accompagnare con le immagini un testo che provasse a ricreare quella poesia e quel sogno che abbiamo avuto il privilegio di vivere.
