Shot on the actual streets of San Francisco, California, GYM5 features a focus on fast, raw and precise driving action. Filmed over four days, director Ben Conrad and his team are back to work on their second Gymkhana production and delivered the entire city of San Francisco as Ken Block's personal gymkhana playground. DC Shoes also provided fellow DC athlete and longtime Ken Block friend, Travis Pastrana, to make a cameo appearance on his dirtbike, and S.F. resident Jake Phelps of Thrasher Magazine fame also makes a cameo as Block hoons S.F. in his most incredible Gymkhana yet. Mat’s lining up in the incredible Audi S1 Hoonitron, and is about to go head-to-head with the iconic 1985 Audi S1 Quattro Group B rally car! So let’s see how these three incredible Audis stack up. Starting with the S1 Hoonitron, it’s a car you would normally expect to see smashing out doughnuts rather than running in a straight line! However, it still packs a mighty punch, with its two electric motors delivering 680hp and 640Nm of torque. What’s more, despite packing a 50kWh battery, it’s still fairly light, weighing in at 1,620kg. Then we have the infamous Audi Group B rally car. It’s got a 2.1-litre 5 cylinder turbo producing 500hp & 480Nm. It may be down on power but it’s a fair bit lighter than the Hoonitron, tipping the scales at just 1,090kg. Shot just south of Paris, France in Linas at l'Autodrome de Linas Montlhéry, this 1.58 mile oval track, built in 1924, features banks as steep as 51 degrees, which is more than double the standard incline of most NASCAR ovals. Chosen by Ken for this specific reason, the ramp-like banking proved to be a unique and exciting challenge. 🤍RamTrucks gave me a new and unreleased version of their 2022 TRX: the Sandblast Edition! It’s like a supercar built for dirt, so let’s just call it a supertruck. Ridiculously comfortable luxury interior stacked with a 702 horsepower 6.2L supercharged Hemi engine, what more could you ask for? Maybe some suspension travel and frosty air conditioning? It has both of those things and plenty more. Naturally I wanted to test the limits of this new unreleased TRX so I decided to take it to Johnson Valley where they hold the annual King of the Hammers race to put it through the paces. And by paces I mean whoops, donuts, jumps, dune slides and a little Gymkhana too. With the ‘22 American Rally Association season over, I decided to take my Hyundai i20 WRC race car for one last ride—in LA traffic!! It’s wild to think that a competition-spec race car like this can also be street legal, but that’s part of what makes rally racing so special. I met up with Trouble Andrew at his studio and gave him a ride, drove through Hollywood, then eventually met up with good friends Rob Dyrdek and Damon Way for a cruise up to Malibu to get dinner before saying goodbye and sending the race car back to Europe. Ken Block and Ford Motor Company’s exclusive partnership has brought in some real hardware over the past decade in rally and rallycross. 19 race wins plus 17 other podium finishes, 2 X Games medals, well over a billion video views across Block’s social media platforms, and the first ever World Rally Championship points scored for the brand by an American driver. As of January 2021, that exclusivity comes to an end, with Block becoming a free agent. And that means his options behind the wheel are now wide open. “Working with Ford over the past decade has been awesome.” says Ken Block. “From racing all over the world, to accumulating a half billion views from Gymkhana THREE to Gymkhana TEN, to creating the Emmy nominated series The Gymkhana Files for Amazon Prime - along with building a fleet of Fords including the iconic AWD Mustang Hoonicorn and F-150 Hoonitruck - it’s been a great partnership. It’s simply been a dream come true to work with the company that built the truck that my Dad drove when I was a teenager. I’m super appreciative to Ford for the support over the years, but I am also looking forward to what an unrestricted 2021 holds, and the ability to spread my wings a bit and play with a lot other toys. 2020 was a big year for Block and his Ford vehicles. He took the overall win at Rally Barbados in a WRC2 Ford Fiesta, won his class (and 3rd overall) at Rally Legend in San Marino in his Ford Escort Cossie V2, and also won the first ever Projekt E race of the FIA World RallyCross Championship in Holjes, Sweden, in a Ford Fiesta. Along with winning races, Block and Hoonigan launched the all-new viral video series,- Hoonicorn Vs The World. Spanning 11 episodes, the series features Ken racing his 1965 Ford Mustang RTR Hoonicorn against a variety of wild vehicles including a McLaren Senna and the World’s Fastest Donk. The series has been viewed over 34 million times since its launch in late November. What does the next chapter have in store?
